Plaster applied in high-heat areas will usually work well. 

 In areas with large temperature fluctuations, it is common to see hairline cracks in plaster finishes. These cracks tend to be caused by the expansion and contraction of the underlying substrate and not a failure of the plaster itself.  Hairline cracks are typically an aesthetic consideration only and are not a concern for the functionality of the finish.
